PREPARING FOR MASS
Ministers are
assigned to the preferred Mass usually once or twice a month. If they cannot serve, they are to find a
substitute. (A substitute list is included with the schedule). Schedules are generally received
quarterly. Included with the schedule
is a roster of all the Ministers with phone numbers and Masses when they are
available to serve. In an effort to
offset costs, we are inviting ministers to provide their email addresses. These ministers will receive their schedules
conveniently through email.
We will
be gathering for prayer with all ministers, altar servers, lectors and the
Presider before Mass. You are
encouraged to arrive early to seat your family and then come back to the
Sacristy to sign in and join us in prayer.
Ministers are asked to arrive at least 15 minutes before Mass. Sign in sheets are located on the corkboard
in the Sacristy. It is important that
you sign in before Mass so that substitute ministers can be found, should there
be a need. Ministers are asked to be
seated as close to the Altar as possible and toward the end of the pew, so that
they can move quickly and quietly to the Altar following the Sign of
Peace. Additionally, Ministers are
asked to always be prepared, to
serve at any Mass they attend in case there is a shortage.
Ministers are asked
to dress in a manner that is appropriate for the Altar of God. Please consider your dress and grooming as
an important part of this ministry.
Appropriate dress and grooming is a sign of the reverence the minister
has for the Eucharist and for the importance of the ministry. The following guidelines have been provided
for you.
Proper attire for
men is a collared shirt, dress slacks and dress shoes. Coats, shirts and ties
are not necessary but encouraged.
Proper attire for
women is knee length skirts or dresses and blouses or dress pants. Low cut
tops, bare shoulders, sleeveless tops or midriffs are not considered
appropriate.
Jeans, shorts,
sweats, mini skirts/dresses, t-shirts, logo apparel, tennis shoes, flip flops
and sneakers are not considered appropriate dress for men and women serving as
Ministers in the Liturgy.
