Overview:

The library program was designed with a twofold objective. First, the introduction of the younger students to efficient and effective library usage and second, the management of the Accelerated Reading Program. The development of active listening skills will be emphasized for the K to 2 students, basic library skills will be taught to the third and fourth grades while the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grades will be enrolled in the reading Accelerated Program. In the last trimester of the fourth grade, they will be introduced to the AR Program.

Special Events:

  • A Parent Reading Program will be implemented in a First Grade class. Groups of four students each will be assigned a parent reader every week. A story will be read to each group after which each student in the group will be encouraged to respond to the story to gauge what his response to what he heard is. The responses will be noted and will be used to evaluate the appropriateness of the library's collection for this grade level.
  • Literature Appreciation Day - Community members are invited to read their favorite story, poem or other form of literature to all grade levels. Authors and illustrators have been key note speakers at the gathering assembly.
